BACKGROUND STORY
⠀⠀⠀⠀Anjani lalita hardjaya. The girl who stopped using the name anjani ever since she came back to her birthplace a year ago.
⠀⠀⠀⠀The only child, Lalita came from a not-so-warm family. Wait. Erase that. Lalita came from a hell-like family. Constant anxiety whenever she stepped into the house. Constant fear on the eyes of her mother. Constant worries she could sense on the house. The young girl didn’t know anything at that time. All she knew was Ibu’s silent tears when she was hugging lalita to sleep, her wishes in lalita’s ears, her slow kisses.
⠀⠀⠀ ’Anjani, anak Ibu, Jadi wanita yang pintar ya, nak. Yang kuat. Yang bisa berdiri tanpa bantuan laki-laki. Ibu janji jagain kamu.’ Either her mind caught those words while she was half-asleep, or she was just not asleep. The words remained to her, as if it stuck in front of her eyes, became her guide in every step she took, in every choice she picked.
⠀⠀⠀⠀For a handful of years, lalita thought her mother cried because of her. because lalita couldn’t be the perfect daughter. That was the start of her unhealthy study obsession, that got her into a high school in seoul. A full funded scholarship. Feeling like she made her mother proud, lalita left her mother—who was in happy tears, and her brother. She spent 3 years in someone else’s country, managing to kick every semester with top score while suffering under extreme loneliness and strangeness of the new culture.
⠀⠀⠀⠀Lalita came back home right after her graduation day, only to found out her old house empty. Her brother in another town. Her family urgently wanted her to sit down and got calm.
⠀⠀⠀⠀Just as her heart dropped to the floor, Lalita heard her mother died. Two years ago. When she was struggling between a rain of exams, learning new culture, and changing herself to fit in more. Her mother. Died. And she didn’t know. Lalita’s one and only motivation to study, died and none of her family bothered to tell her.
⠀⠀⠀ The girl got so angry she refused to speak more than necessary with her family and relatives. Luckily, Lalita managed to get into a university, away from her childhood house, away from every piece of memory that tore her into pieces.
⠀⠀⠀⠀The warm-eyed girl is now managing through life, walking every path she feels right, choosing every option she desires, and keeping her sanity.
